Shoulder pain treatment with Posture Shirt

Shoulder pain can make it difficult to perform even the most simple task of everyday life. Any movements can become completely impossible to do because of the pain in the shoulder. Often the pain will also radiate to the neck and / or down the back. This is because the shoulder is a very complex joint that is bound together by both passive and active structures. Among other things, these structures can be affected by a poor posture because we overload the various joints and structures in the shoulder. Fortunately, there are ways to combat the pain; The Posture Shirt™ from ActivePosture® does alleviate the shoulder pain for many. A Swiss study conducted in 2019 by Bern University of Applied Sciences shows that 73% of users with shoulder pain felt that the intensity of their pain was reduced after they started wearing posture clothing from ActivePosture.* In the study, 1039 users were asked about their pain and tension in the head, neck, back and shoulders in their daily life before and after they started using posture correcting clothing from ActivePosture. The results of the study are quite notable: 84% feel that the product has had a positive impact on their posture, 70% feel that the frequency of their shoulder pain is less and as many as 73% feel the intensity of their shoulder pain is reduced. You can, risk-free, try the posture shirt from ActivePosture and see if it will also work for you. Below you can see the answers from the 605 respondents who indicated that they are suffering from shoulder pain.

*The users have all used an Alignme Bra or a Posture Shirt 2.0.

In addition, posture clothing from ActivePosture® shows signs of relieving tension and pain. The three components (aches and pains, posture and posture awareness) correlate positively with each other, suggesting that improving one component also positively affects the other two. Based on the conclusion of this pilot project, further independent scientific studies have been initiated at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (RCT).

Pain in shoulder

For some, pain in the shoulders and neck occur suddenly. As a rule, however, shoulder pain comes gradually. This often happens due to a number of unfortunate events, sitting in a poor position, an unfortunate lift (often of a heavy item) or after having slept in an adverse position. Other common posturing problems that can cause pain is working with your head down for extended periods (this can also be from sitting with a smartphone) or generally just having a poor posture, when walking, exercising, lying in the sofa etc. A Posture Shirt™ from ActivePosture may help you get a better posture and thus relieve your overloaded shoulders. The results from the Swiss study presented on these pages show that 84% of users with shoulder pain state that their ActivePosture product has had a positive (physical) effect on their posture and a full 70% feel that the frequency of their shoulder pain has been reduced. An ActivePosture Posture Shirt™ can act as shoulder support treatment that can relieve your shoulder pain.

Shoulder pain

Having shoulder pain can be very painful. In some instances, exercises can help you get rid of shoulder pain. The posture correcting t-shirt from ActivePosture is perfect for exercising, helping you to obtain the most optimal posture throughout your workout.

Shoulder pain and poor posture

As mentioned above, poor posture can result in shoulder pain, neck pain, headache and back pain because the muscles in the different areas are interrelated and affect each other if one area is overburdened, for instance from working in an asymmetrical position or sitting long hours. It can be difficult to change one's postural routines without some help. The posture correcting clothing from ActivePosture can work as shoulder support that provides better posture and helps ease shoulder pain. The above study shows that 82% of respondents have become more aware of their posture after they started to use the ActivePosture posture correcting clothing. At the same time, 70% feel that the frequency of their shoulder pain is less and 73% feel the intensity of their shoulder pain is reduced.

Treatment of shoulder pain

As described above, there can be several reasons for getting shoulder pain. As a rule, shoulder pain can originate in the neck, back or chest, creating tension that can affect the shoulder region. For the same reason, treatment of shoulder pain can also be done in different ways, e.g. in the form of professional treatment, exercises or by wearing posture corrective clothing. The above studies show that the latter can have a major effect on shoulder pain. In the study, as many as 84% responded that the use of posture clothing had a positive (physical) effect on their posture and 75% felt that the intensity of their shoulder pain was reduced showing there is a correlation between shoulder pain relief by wearing posture correcting clothing. We recommend that the posture corrective clothing from ActivePosture® is used as a supplement to exercise, but also to any treatment from a physiotherapist or chiropractor you may undergo at the moment. The posture clothing should not replace an otherwise healthy and active lifestyle.

Exercises to combat shoulder pain

Often, treating shoulder pain may advantageously be a combination of posture correction and exercises that may help to relieve tension. Here are a number of exercises that can be usefully combined with posture correction when wanting to combat shoulder pain.

Roll the shoulders: Raise your shoulders as high up as you can. Now pull them as far back as possible. Keep them retracted as you lower them as far down as possible. Finally, release the tension so that the shoulders fall back into place. Repeat this exercise 3-5 times, preferably several times daily.

Lifting arms: Stand with a dumbbell in each hand with arms down the side. Lift your arms out from your body until your hands are at your shoulders. Slowly lower your arms again. Repeat this exercise 8-12 times. If you don't have dumbbells, you can use any item you have at home, for instance, a heavy book, as long as you are able to have a firm grip on the item.

Arm stretch: Stand or sit. Place one hand on the opposite hip. Raise your arm as high as you can. Lower your arm again. Repeat the exercise 8-12 times with each arm.
